SIVELTIMELLÄ ON  MAHDOTON VOIMA

Se alkaa tyhjästä pinnasta. Sitten syntyy ensimmäinen veto, toinen, kolmas, viidessadas, tuhannes...vetojen määrää on vaikea laskea. Tunnen sen kun on aika lopettaa, ottaa enää viimeiset pisarat maalia, viimeistellä hieman sieltä ja vähän täältä. Kun taulu on valmis, katson sitä ja pohdin, tällainenko siitä tuli. Niin voimakas, ja kuitenkin kovin herkkä. Kuvittelen tuntevani maalauksen läpikotaisin. Sitten keskustelen siitä toisten kanssa, ja pian taulun maailma avautuu minulle taiteilijanakin uudella tavalla.

A BRUSH HOLDS IMPOSSIBLE POWER

It starts with a blank surface. Then comes the first stroke, the second, the third… the five hundredth, the thousandth. The
number of brushstrokes becomes impossible to count. I simply feel when it's time to stop — to add just the final drops of paint, a touch here and a little detail there. When the painting is  finished, I look at it and think: So this is what it became. So powerful — and yet so delicate. I imagine I already understand everything within the work, but then I talk about it with others. And suddenly, the world of the painting opens to me once again — in a completely new way, even as its artist.
